Michael Austin, oboe

Michael Austin earned his bachelor’s degree from The Juilliard School where he was the recipient
of the Elaine Lambert Prize granting full scholarship. Before attending Juilliard, he was a National
Merit Scholar, pursuing both music and medicine at Rice University. His principal teachers included
John Ferrillo, Elizabeth Camus, and Robert Atherholt. Upon graduation, he played with the New
World Symphony in Miami Beach, where he was a frequent soloist. He was Principal Oboist of the
Florida West Coast Symphony in Sarasota for three years. This past year, he has performed with
various ensembles such as The Florida Orchestra, Florida West Coast Symphony, The Symphony
Orchestra of Monterrey, Mexico, and Bargemusic in New York City. Mr. Austin has also
participated in numerous music festivals including Tanglewood, Bravo!Colorado, Banff, Aspen, and
Aix-en-Provence, France.
