Paul Reynolds, viola

Paul Reynolds has served as principal violist with the Sarasota Opera Company, the New World Symphony of Miami, and the National Chamber Orchestra in Washington D.C.  He also held a core position with the Florida West Coast Symphony before becoming a member of the Coolidge String Quartet.

As a member of the Coolidge String Quartet, Mr. Reynolds was appointed Assistant Professor at George Washington University, and played concerts in the U.S. and abroad. They were invited to compete at the Bordeaux International Quartet Competition, and participated in the Pablo Casals Festival and Internationale Konzert Arbeits Wochen in Gosal, Germany.

In  2001, Mr. Reynolds was chosen to perform as soloist with the New World Symphony as winner of the annual concerto competition.  His Penderecki Viola Concerto received much critical acclaim. Over the years he has participated in many festivals including the Mainly Mozart Festival, Tanglewood Music Center, Spoleto Festival, Music Academy of the West, Pacific Music Festival in Japan, Santa Fe Opera, National Repertory Orchestra, and was a fellowship recipient for the Aspen Music School.

Mr. Reynolds received his Bachelor’s Degree from The Cleveland Institute of Music studying under the principal violist of the Cleveland Orchestra, Robert Vernon.  He completed his Master’s degree at Rice University, working with the principal violist of the Philadelphia orchestra, Roberto Diaz.  He also studied for a year with Martha Katz, formerly of the Cleveland Quartet.

Mr. Reynolds currently resides in Vermont where he is very active playing with groups such as the Vermont Symphony, Vermont Mozart Festival, and Capital City Concerts, and has been heard live on Vermont Public Radio.  He is a founding member of the Sky Meadow Chamber Players, and is on the faculty of the Monteverdi Music School.
